A Courtesy Visit From the Chairman of Beijing Foreign Studies University

On March 27, Professor Han Zhen, Chairman of the University Council, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), paid a courtesy visit to President FUKUDA Hideki. Among the delegates from BFSU were Professor Xu Yiping, Director of the Beijing Center for Japanese Studies; Professor Shao Jianguo, Dean of the Japanese Department, and Mr. Gu Jiayun, Deputy Director of the Office for International Exchange and Cooperation. Attending from Kobe University were Professor INOUE Noriyuki, Executive Vice President in charge of International Exchange; Professor OGATA Yasushi, Director of the Kobe University China Office; and Professor HUANG Lin, Deputy Director of the Kobe University China Office.

BFSU is the top Chinese educational institution in foreign language education, and one of the national key universities in China. During the meeting, Secretary Han mentioned that as Asia's economy has dramatically grown in recent years, so as Asia's importance around the world. He also noted that the urgency to foster globally minded students in this globalized era has further increased. President Fukuda agreed with Secretary Han, and shared his intention to establish a firm partnership with BFSU by building on past achievements, particularly academic, faculty and student exchanges between the two universities, and further increasing exchange activities.

It is expected that the two universities will further increase exchange activities.
