The Center is responsible for the waste treatment and environmental management of the University. For instance, wastewater containing harmful chemical substances (i.e. heavy metals such as mercury) from research activities is carefully treated to avoid damage to the environment. In the 21st century, the Center is expected to play a significant role in Kobe University's total environmental activities, including staff education concerning pollutant release, transfer and register (PRTR). Energy saving and reductional solid wastes are also expected to be managed according to the assistance of the Center.
