The Faculty of Maritime Sciences was established in October, 2003 with the integration of Kobe University of Mercantile Marine, the origins of which go back to 1917 when it was first named the Kawasaki Merchant Marine School. In 1920, it was nationalized, becoming Kobe Nautical College.
The objective of this Faculty is to foster the beginning careers of the students in the marine transportation and energy fields. Emphasis is placed on fields such as Maritime Safety Management, efficiency of Marine Propulsion and Energy, Transportation Systems, Marine Engineering and the Marine Environment Conservation.
The Faculty has three separate departments; Marine Technology Management, Maritime Transportation Systems and Marine Engineering. The International Maritime Education and Research Center, and the training ship "Fukae Maru" co-operate with the Faculty. Among our students, we include those from overseas.
