XXIX Physics in Collision 2009 held in Kobe

The international symposium on Physics in Collision 2009 was held at Rokko Hall in KOBE University Centennial Hall from August 31 to September 2. This event, co-hosted by High Energy Accelerator Research Organization and sponsored by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), was attended by 114 participants including 57 people from foreign countries. Physics in Collision 2009 held This conference series began in 1981 in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA and has been held once a year ever since in a different country.

This international symposium series consist of plenary sessions by invited guests on the latest experimental results of elementary particle physics, mainly those using high-energy accelerator but also such related field as astroparticle physics.

Following the welcome address by Dr. FUKUDA Hideki, Kobe University President on the first day, invited speakers gave presentations on the accurate measurement result of electroweak interaction and the current research of heavy quark study under B-factory experiments in Japan, which were followed by active discussions. On the second day, 38 presenters contributed to poster sessions where they enthusiastically presented their research to the audience. Out of the 38 presenters, 10 were given five-minutes each to publicize the importance of their research prior to the poster session.

On the last day, a new development in astrophysics regarding the origin of the universe was reported and the conference came to an end with the session of neutrino physics, an area of specialty for Japan.
