Cars and motorcycles/scooters travel on the left side of the road in Japan. Drivers must fasten seatbelts in cars, and wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle/scooter.
There are only limited numbers of parking spaces on campus, therefore commuting by car is not recommended. Motorcycles and scooters are also not recommended, however, if the researcher does come by motorcycle/scooter, be sure to lock it and park it in the designated areas. Motorcycle/scooter riders are required to carry a driver's license.
Researchers are required to hold either an International or Japanese Driver's License.
International License from a country recognized under the "Geneva Pact" is valid for use in Japan. This type of license is valid for one year from the date of issuance. If the researcher stays longer than this period, it is necessary to apply for a Japanese Driver's License. To obtain a Japanese Driver's License, the applicant must take an aptitude test, or pass the Japanese driving test.
