The authorized period of stay in Japan for a Working Visa is one or three years, starting from the day after landing permission is granted. Researchers staying longer than these periods must obtain permission for an extension from the Osaka Immigration Bureau, Kobe Branch (Kobe Chiho Go-do-chosha, 29 Kaigan-dori, Chuo-ku, Kobe, TEL: 078-391-6378). Application is accepted 2 months to 10 days prior to the date of expiration. Applicants must also go to the city/ward office to report the change within 14 days of extension.
