Degree Awarding Policy of the Graduate School of Medicine

The basic philosophy of the Graduate School of Medicine, Kobe University is to provide education meeting the highest international standards, so as to cultivate doctors and medical researchers who have the perspective of scientists with an excellent sense of humanity, high ethical standards, and a spirit of inquiry and creativity.

Under this basic philosophy, the Graduate School of Medicine awards degrees in line with the following policies.

Master's Program

Major in Biomedical Science

  • Students shall study at the Department of Biomedical Science for the specified period of time, and earn the required credits for completion. Also, after receiving the required research guidance, students shall pass the master's degree thesis review and the final examination.
  • Students are encouraged to achieve the following learning goals through the curriculum by the completion of the program.
    • To acquire extensive general knowledge and develop an awareness of bioethics.
    • To acquire the ability to address new challenges with the perspective of a scientist who has a great sense of inquiry and creativity.
    • To acquire the ability to logically and explicitly explain their own research findings, and to disseminate these findings internationally as needed.
    • To acquire profound knowledge and highly specialized skills in the field of biomedical science.

Doctoral Program

Major in Medical Science

  • Students shall study at the Department of Medical Science for the specified period of time, and earn the required credits for completion. Also, after receiving the required research guidance, students shall pass the doctoral degree thesis review and the final examination.
  • Students are encouraged to achieve the following academic goals through the curriculum by the completion of the program.
    • To acquire an excellent sense of humanity and high ethical standards to act as a doctor or medical researcher who has a good balance of intellect, reason and emotion.
    • To acquire the ability to address new challenges with the perspective of a scientist with a great sense of inquiry and creativity.
    • To acquire the ability to play an active role in the international arena, as doctors or medical researchers who respect diverse values and combine a deep understanding of different cultures and excellent communication skills.
    • To acquire highly specialized knowledge and techniques, as doctors or medical researchers.
