Degree Awarding Policy of the Faculty of Maritime Sciences

The Faculty of Maritime Sciences, Kobe University promotes deeper understanding of maritime issues and fosters individuals with leadership skills who have outstanding international awareness, an excellent sense of humanity, abundant creativity and high levels of expertise. Through such activities, the Faculty seeks to protect the oceans and contribute to the development of maritime sciences and the international maritime society.

Toward these objectives, the Faculty of Maritime Sciences provides education meeting the highest international standards. The Faculty awards degrees in line with the following two policies.

  • Students shall study at the Faculty of Maritime Sciences for the specified period of time and earn the credits required for graduation.
  • Students at the Faculty of Maritime Sciences are encouraged to enhance their international awareness, sense of humanity, creativity and expertise, through the Faculty curriculum.
[Department of Maritime Technology Management]

The Department of Maritime Technology Management nurtures ships' officers and other management engineers who can fulfill leading roles in the international maritime society, and works for the development of the maritime and other industries, marine environment conservation and international exchange, thereby contributing to world peace.

Toward these objectives, the Department provides education meeting the highest international standards. Degrees are awarded in line with the following two policies.

  • Students shall study at the Department of Maritime Technology Management for the specified period of time and earn the credits required for graduation.
  • Students at the Department of Maritime Technology Management are encouraged to achieve the following learning goals by graduation.
    Prescience
    To develop the ability to actively address new, unknown problems with curiosity and a challenging spirit.
    Cooperation
    To develop the ability to actively engage in problem solving through teamwork, thereby contributing to their organizations and society as a whole.
    International awareness
    To develop the ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills useful in the international community, while paying respect to diverse values and deepening understanding of other cultures.
    Expertise
    To acquire broad knowledge and specialized skills built on such knowledge in the fields of marine safety, technology management, ship navigation and engines, so that they can fulfill leading roles in the international maritime society.
[Department of Maritime Logistics Sciences]

The objective of the Department of Maritime Logistics Sciences is to foster individuals who can help design, establish, evaluate and manage transportation/logistics systems that are efficient, safe and friendly to the global environment. Such systems have become increasingly important along with economic globalization.

Toward this objective, the Department provides education meeting the highest international standards. Degrees are awarded in line with the following two policies.

  • Students shall study at the Department of Maritime Logistics Sciences for the specified period of time and earn the credits required for graduation.
  • Students at the Department of Maritime Logistics Sciences are encouraged to achieve the following learning goal by graduation.
    • To acquire specialized skills to design, establish, evaluate and manage global-scale ltransportation/logistics systems, from the perspectives of safety, efficiency and environmental preservation.
[Department of Marine Engineering]

The objectives of the Department of Marine Engineering are to provide students with basic knowledge regarding various energy resource-related technologies, environmental preservation and mechatronics technologies, and thereby to foster engineers who can configure, manage and evaluate the entire systems.

Toward these objectives, the Department provides education meeting the highest international standards. Degrees are awarded in line with the following two policies.

  • Students shall study at the Department of Marine Engineering for the specified period of time and earn the credits required for graduation.
  • Students at the Department of Marine Engineering are encouraged to achieve the following learning goals by graduation.
    • To develop the ability to act as members of society with broad knowledge and a good sense of balance.
    • To acquire wide practical skills and development capability from comprehensive perspectives, without being bounded by traditional thoughts and methodologies.
    • To enhance international awareness and demonstrate excellent communication skills, through exchange with counterparts at many overseas universities.
    • To acquire wide-ranging knowledge in science and technology, and, based on such knowledge, develop their expertise and master the latest technologies regarding energy use, environmental conservation, mechatronics, etc.
