On 10 February, Mr. Chang Jen Joe, Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Osaka (TECO), paid a courtesy visit to Professor TAKEDA Hiroshi, President of Kobe University. Attendees of the meeting included Mr. Liu Guolong, Head of the Education and Culture Division of TECO; Professor INOUE Noriyuki, Executive Vice-President in Charge of International Exchange; and Professor OGATA Yasushi, Director of Kobe University’s Centre for Asian Studies.

At the beginning of the meeting, President TAKEDA expressed his sincere condolences over the damages caused by the South Taiwan Earthquake. President TAKEDA also introduced Kobe City’s experiences in post-quake recovery and Kobe University’s research on disaster mitigation.

Afterwards both sides discussed the existing academic collaboration between Kobe University and universities in Taiwan, and its further expansion. Kobe University representatives introduced academic collaboration with National Chengchi University and National Taiwan University in the fields of Law and Engineering. In order to further develop the existing collaboration, Mr. Chang proposed to invite President TAKEDA to Taiwan and organize meetings with potential partner universities. Finally, both sides agreed to cooperate in materializing this proposal.
