As a part of an Erasmus+ staff mobility exchange programme between Kobe University and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), Dr. Arvydas Rimkus (Department of Bridges and Special Structures, VGTU) visited Kobe University for six days starting 23 May.
The Kobe University Graduate School of Human Development and Environment and Graduate School of Engineering respectively concluded Inter-faculty Agreements of Academic Exchange with the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences, VGTU, on 26 March, 2014. Agreements on student exchange were also concluded on 24 February, 2016. Additionally, the Graduate School of System Informatics, as well as the Graduate School of Human Development and Environment and Graduate School of Engineering, concluded an Erasmus+ agreement with VGTU on 9 December, 2015. Erasmus+ is a European Union education funding programme that promotes exchange of students, teaching staff and administrative staff between universities. It enables Kobe University and VGTU to facilitate student and staff exchanges.
During his six day stay in Kobe, Dr. Rimkus gave lectures to freshman students at the Department of Architecture in the Faculty of Engineering and graduate students at the Department of Architecture in the Graduate School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Human Development and Environment. Students who attended his classes showed deep interest in the Erasmus+student exchange programme and enthusiastically asked Dr. Rimkus questions after the classes.
Between the classes, he visited the following professors to talk about exchange activities between Kobe University and VGTU, his lectures at Kobe University, and possibilities for new student exchange and research activities: Professor INOUE Noriyuki (Vice-President in Charge of International Exchange), Professor OHMURA Naoto (Vice-Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering), Professor SAKAGAMI Kimihiro (Head of the Department of Architecture), Professor KODAKA Naoki (Vice-Dean of the Graduate School of Human Development and Environment), and Associate Professor OHNISHI Kazuyoshi (Head of the Graphic Science Education Team).
A short time before his visit to Kobe, it was discovered that Kobe University and VGTU had a teaching staff exchange over twenty years ago, providing historical continuity for the two universities’ relationship.
