What makes humans and other living things secure? Peace Studies is not the study of war, but the study of living. I experienced the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake that devastated Kobe. So after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake I started a drawing project in the disaster area. I learned that after experiencing severe trauma, people often cannot talk about their feelings, but drawing helps them to tell their stories. As a peace scholar and activist, I am currently looking at the role of art in rebuilding communities.
