The Information Science and Technology Center of Kobe University provides all members of the University with an ICT infrastructure that supports their educational, research, and administrative activities. This infrastructure includes a student PC system, user ID management system, an email system, a network system for information exchange, and other information systems.
The Center consists of Research Division on Informatics Education Systems, Research Division on Computer Software Systems, Research Division on Computer Networks and Systems, and Division on Administrative Information Systems. Each research division aims to improve the performance of the University's information infrastructure by sharing its research achievements both inside and outside the University. This Center also collaborates with the Institute for Promotion of Higher Education to offer a Liberal Education course in basic information processing called "Introduction to Computer Literacy". The Division on Administrative Information Systems maintains and manages major administration-related systems.
Research Division on Informatics Education Systems
This division manages the Computer Aided Education Systems And Resources (CAESAR) and the learning management system called “LMS BEEF". CAESER provides the iMacs available on-campus to university members. The division also carries out surveys and research on the potential uses of e-Learning and Web-based Training in higher education.
Research Division on Computer Software Systems
This division conducts the planning, introduction, and operation of Kobe Academic Information System for Education and Research (KAISER) in cooperation with other divisions. KAISER provides various IT services to users and organizations in the University. In addition, the division carries out research and development related to programming language systems and their applications used in the development of advanced information processing systems, such as AI systems.
Research Division on Computer Networks and Systems
This division manage the high-speed campus LAN named KHAN (Kobe University Hyper Academic network), which is connected to the Internet through a Japanese academic backbone network named SINET (Science Information Network). The division also carries out research on the technologies and applications related to the computer networks, information security, and virtual reality.
Division on Administrative Information Systems
This division manages the introduction, operation support and hardware maintenance of administrative information systems across the University, such as the Accounting Service System, System for Personnel Information and Salary Calculation, the Kobe University Academic Affairs Information System. The division is also in charge of planning and operations for the Information Technology Business Continuity Plan (IT-BCP) and the Campus Software License.
