On December 8, a workshop addressing manufacturing tool technology research titled Leading Edge Research on Machine Tools in Japan was held at Kobe University Brussels European Centre (KUBEC).
While public transportation workers were on strike the day it was held, approximately 15 people joined the workshop from across all sectors including Japanese and European industry, academia, and government. Among the participants were representatives of Mazak Europe, Fanuc Europe Corporation, KU Leuven, the University of Florence, and the Japan Machinery Center for Trade and Investment. From Japan, researchers from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Saitama University, and Kobe University participated in the workshop and gave lectures on additive manufacturing technology (3D printers) as well as the intellectual technology of machine tools. The session was extended so that the lively discussion could continue. Taking this opportunity, the participants committed to collaborating.in the future.
On the following day, delegation members travelled to Florence, Italy, to visit AUTON s.r.l., GE Oil & Gas, and the University of Florence, and to exchange information. The participants discussed their research projects and the possibility of developing them into international joint projects.
The workshop was held to discuss a research project titled Cutting Real-time Simulation and Control of Cutting Under Sensorless Monitoring, funded by the Grants-in-aid for Scientific Research, Fundamental Research (B) 26289018. It was co-sponsored by the following: the Japan-EU Partnership in Innovation, Science and Technology (JEUPISTE) Project administered by the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation; the Japan Machinery Center for Trade and Investment, Brussels Office; the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), Research Affiliates; and the Japan Society for Precision Engineering (JSPE), Affiliate Committee.
