May 29, 2017
On May 29, Kobe University held the Visegrad Project Kick-Off Workshop titled “Prospects of Visegrad Project: Comparative Studies on Migration and Social Movements in V4 Countries, Japan and Asia” at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland.
Using the Visegrad University Studies Grants, from October 2017 Kobe University is starting a course titled “The Place of V4 Countries in Europe and Japan” to study the importance of Central and Eastern Europe within the EU, links between Japan and the region, and its position in Japan. The course is expected to be offered to exchange students from partner universities of Kobe University, and taught with cooperation from scholars in our V4 partner universities: Jagiellonian University (Poland), Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary), Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovakia), and Charles University (Czech).
This course is also planned to form part of the Kobe University Educational Program on Current Japan, an English and Japanese-taught program focusing on current issues in Japan. The program covers a broad range of disciplines, including social sciences, humanities, and science and technology.
The workshop was attended by Professor INOUE Noriyuki (Executive Vice-President in Charge of International Exchange), Professor YUI Kiyomitsu (Executive Assistant to the President in Charge of International Collaboration, Executive Director of the Centre for EU Academic Collaboration) and Professor SHIRATORI Yoshihiko (Vice-Dean, Graduate School of Humanities). The attendees discussed issues including the scholars from V4 partner universities who will conduct the project, course operation, and expansion of exchange activities between Kobe University and the V4 partners.
Kobe University established a liaison office in Kraków, Poland in October 2015, and we have been actively involved in international exchanges between partner universities in Central and Eastern Europe such as Jagiellonian University, including Erasmus+ programmes. Through this project, Kobe University will promote further collaboration between Japan and Central and Eastern Europe in education and research.
