President Takeda visited Nanyang Technological University in Singapore

On June 12, President TAKEDA Hiroshi visited Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. From Kobe University, Professor OGAWA Matsuto (Executive Vice-President in Charge of Research), Professor SAITO Masa-hiko (Vice-President in Charge of Liberal Education, and Mathematical and Data Sciences) and Mr. TSUZUKI Satoshi (Head, International Department) accompanied President Takeda.

NTU is a comprehensive public university established in 1991, and it was ranked 11th (1st in Asia) in the most recent QS World University Rankings. In December 2016, Kobe University and NTU concluded inter-university agreements on academic cooperation, student exchange, and data sciences.

On the day, President Takeda and the delegates paid a courtesy visit to Professor Bertil Andersson (President, NTU) and were briefed on NTU’s education, research, and industry-university cooperation initiatives. The attendees from NTU included Professor Lam Khin Yong (Chief of Staff and Vice-President for Research), Professor Er Meng Hwa (Vice-President for International Affairs), and Professor Ling San (Dean, College of Science). In the meeting the two sides discussed academic exchanges in data sciences and inter-university student exchanges based on the recently signed agreements.

Before and after the courtesy visit, the delegation visited the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and School of Computer Science and Engineering, where they were briefed on the Schools’ organization and discussed future collaboration in education and research with the Schools’ representatives. Afterwards, the delegation visited the HIVE and was briefed on the status quo of educational reforms at NTU.

Through this visit, Kobe University hopes that academic exchanges with NTU in research and education will develop further.
