The Second Kobe University – Beijing Foreign Studies University Joint Symposium

On June 23, the Kobe University Center for Asian Academic Collaboration and Beijing Foreign Studies University jointly hosted the Second Kobe University – Beijing Foreign Studies University Joint Symposium at Kobe University’s Takigawa Memorial Hall. This symposium is part of the activities of the Kobe University and Beijing Foreign Studies University International Collaborative Research Base.

Before the symposium, a signing ceremony took place for the updated Kobe University and Beijing Foreign Studies University International Collaborative Research Base Action Plan. The new Action Plan will promote closer cooperation between our University and Beijing Foreign Studies University. During the signing ceremony, Kobe University President TAKEDA Hiroshi and Beijing Foreign Studies University Vice-President YAN Guohua expressed their intentions to further expand the collaborative relationship between our universities.

The symposium was held on the theme of “Comparison of Japanese and Chinese Development Models II”. The morning session focused on social sciences under the topic of “Japan and China’s Relationship in Diversifying World Economics”. It was moderated by Professor KOU Lin (Deputy Director of the Center for Asian Academic Collaboration) with presentations from three researchers from Kobe University and Beijing Foreign Studies University. The afternoon session, moderated by Associate Professor KAJIO Fumitake (Kobe University Graduate School of Humanities) focused on the humanities with the theme of “East Asian Cultures, Languages and Nations as ‘Spaces for Communication’”. This session saw presentations from five researchers. In the following panel discussion, Professor GUO Lianyou (Head of the Beijing Center for Japanese Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University) Professor XU Yiping (Beijing Center for Japanese Studies), Associate Professor KAJIO Fumitake, and Associate Professor FURUICHI Akira (Graduate School of Humanities) engaged in a lively debate with participation from the floor.

With the signing of this updated Action Plan and the second joint symposium, we look forward to stronger mutual exchange with Beijing Foreign Studies University, and further developments in collaborative relationships with other researchers in China, Asia and worldwide.
