Visit to Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun

On October 23, Professor INOUE Noriyuki (Executive Vice President in Charge of International Exchange), Professor YUI Kiyomitsu (Executive Assistant to the President in Charge of International Collaboration) and Professor YOSHIDA Ken-ichi (Executive Director of the Kobe University Brussels European Center and Professor at the Graduate School of Science, Technology and Innovation) visited Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland.

In the morning, Prof. Inoue and Prof. Yui visited the Faculty of Languages. At the Faculty, Prof. Inoue gave a talk to staff and students on the topic of ‘figure of state seen through Japanese historical novels’. Afterwards, the Professors had a meeting with the members of the Faculty of Languages, including Prof. Przemysław Nehring (Dean) and discussed suggestions from the Faculty regarding further academic cooperation between the two universities, such as mutual research visits and Erasmus+ application.

The delegation then moved to the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection and met with members of the Faculty, including Prof. Werner Ulrich (Dean). In the meeting both sides exchanged information mainly on the possibility of joint research in biology, biotechnology and related areas.

At noon, Prof. Yoshida gave a lecture as part of the Rector’s Lecture Series hosted by Prof. Andrzej Tretyn (Rector) at the Center for Modern Interdisciplinary Technologies. Prof. Yoshida’s lecture, entitled ‘Bio-production in Kobe and a new generation of genome editing, introduced Innovative BioProduction Kobe (iBioK) and a new genome editing technique without DNA cutting. The lecture was followed by an active Q&A session and ended on a high note.

In the afternoon, the professors visited the units relevant to their research: Prof. Inoue visited the Faculty of Law and Administration for a joint seminar, Prof. Yui visited the Faculty of Humanities for a discussion on joint research in sociology, and Prof. Yoshida visited the genomics laboratory in the Center for Modern Interdisciplinary Technologies respectively. 

Kobe University hopes that this visit will further expand the academic exchanges with Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun.
