March 29, 2018

Representatives from Kobe University participated in study abroad seminars hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Beijing (March 16), and Tsinghua University (March 21). The first event was attended by approximately 15 students, and the second by 20 students, all interested in studying abroad in Japan.

The seminar hosted by the Embassy of Japan began with a new video about studying abroad in Japan, followed by an explanation about studying in Japan and the scholarship system from the study abroad advisor at the Embassy of Japan. The attending universities each held a study abroad seminar, with Kansai University and Kobe University co-hosting a session on their study abroad procedures. Each university gave a 20-minute introductory presentation, and the student participants asked various questions. Their enquiries included the necessary preparations for studying abroad in Japan, the merits of work experience in applying for a graduate program, the availability of dormitories in exchange programs, the type of curriculum, and the potential for credit transfer. The students’ enthusiasm reflected the high level of interest in our institution and studying in Japan.

The study abroad seminar at Tsinghua University also started with the Embassy of Japan’s new video on studying abroad in Japan, followed by an explanation on studying abroad in Japan and the scholarship system from Mr. GUO Chun-ling[W1]  (a representative from the Embassy of Japan’s Information and Culture Center). This was followed by 15-minute presentations from Hitotsubashi University, Hosei University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ritsumeikan University, Kobe University, Kyushu University and Kanazawa University, and an introduction to the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). The student participants enthusiastically asked university representatives various questions. Kobe University received questions about scholarship programs specific to Kobe University (other than government and business-funded scholarships), and the procedures involved in applying for these scholarships.

Tsinghua University is a top-level Chinese university specializing in science and technology, but the student participants at these events came from both science and humanities backgrounds. Kobe University concluded an inter-university agreement for academic exchange with Tsinghua University in 2016, and we look forward to further developments in exchange with this institution.
