New base for international collaboration in Romania

May 28, 2018

On May 17, in cooperation with Babes-Bolyai University, we established the Kobe University and Babes-Bolyai University International Collaboration Centre (KU-UBB ICC) in Romania. This is our seventh overseas base, following the establishment of the China Office (2008), the Brussels Office (Belgium, 2010), the Hanoi Liaison Base (Vietnam, April 2015), the Kraków Office (Poland, October 2010), the Kobe University and Beijing Foreign Studies University International Collaborative Research Base (China, October 2016), and the Honolulu Office (Hawaii, July 2017). As well as the location within Babes-Bolyai University in Romania, the Centre is also physically located within Kobe University’s Institute for Promoting International Partnerships, providing a base in Japan for Babes-Bolyai University.

Professor Noriyuki Inoue (Executive Vice President in Charge of Academic Exchange), Professor Kiyomitsu Yui (Executive Assistant to the President in Charge of International Collaboration), and Professor Masahiko Yoshii (Vice President in Charge of Personnel Evaluation and Planning) traveled to Romania to conduct the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony for the new Centre. During the ceremony there were introductions to both institutions. Executive Vice President Inoue expressed his wishes that this new overseas base would lead to further exchange between Kobe University and Babes-Bolyai University, as well as providing opportunities for exchange in research and education with universities in Romania and other Eastern European countries. The ceremony was attended from Babes-Bolyai University by Professor Ioan Chirilă (President of the University Senate), Professor Călin Rus (Vice-Rector for International Affairs), Professor Cristian Litan (Vice-Rector for Education) and Associate Professor Ioan Nistor (Dean of the Faculty of Business). All participants voiced their expectations for increased exchange between our institutions.

Babes-Bolyai University concluded an inter-university agreement for academic exchange with Kobe University in 1998. The university is one of our active partner institutions in Europe, with Kobe University’s Graduate School of Intercultural Studies, the Faculty of Global Human Sciences and the Graduate School of Economics playing key roles in researcher exchange and student mobility.

The new Kobe University and Babes-Bolyai University International Collaboration Centre provides a strong base for Kobe University to further strengthen ties with Europe in research and education.
