2nd Bilateral Kobe-Kiel Workshop held

October 3, 2018

On September 26, the 2nd Bilateral Kobe-Kiel Workshop was held at Kobe University in collaboration with our partner institution Kiel University. Kobe University and Kiel University concluded an inter-university academic exchange agreement on May 12, 2016, and we are actively engaged in research exchange in the natural and social sciences. This workshop was held with the aim of initiating and expanding joint research between our institutions. It is an academic event that provided a follow-up for the first Bilateral Kobe-Kiel Workshop, held on September 18 last year.

The pre-workshop reception opened with greetings from Professor Noriyuki Inoue (Executive Vice President in Charge of International Exchange), who expressed his expectations for further research exchange between our institutions. Professor Franz Faupel (Faculty of Engineering, Kiel University) introduced the research exchange initiatives in the field of nanoscience between our institutions, and the widening of the scope of exchange that was facilitated by last year’s workshop.

As well as a continuation of last year’s themes with sessions in nanoscience and international relations, this year’s workshop also featured a new session on business administration, and the international relations session was expanded to include presentations from professors of law affiliated with both institutions. Researchers from Kobe and Kiel presented their advanced research findings, and in each session the participants listened with interest and engaged in enthusiastic debates during the Q&A time.

The workshop was attended from Kiel University by 11 researchers and the Director of the International Center. On September 27 these members participated in a tour of the Spring-8 facilities of the RIKEN research organization.

Through this workshop, both universities were able to confirm the successful expansion of research and education based on our inter-university agreement of academic exchange.
