Signing ceremony and lecture at the University of Innsbruck

December 14, 2018

On November 30, Professor Noriyuki Inoue (Executive Vice President in Charge of International Exchange) and Professor Kiyomitsu Yui (Executive Assistant to the President in Charge of International Collaboration) visited Professor Tilmann Märk, Rector of the University of Innsbruck in Austria. Established in 1669, the University of Innsbruck is the largest university in western Austria. Kobe University and the University of Innsbruck concluded an inter-university academic exchange agreement in October 2017, and we are actively engaged in exchange initiatives including joint research, seminars and intensive courses by Kobe University faculty members in sociology and law.

In order to further expand our academic exchange, both institutions agreed to conclude memoranda of understanding for student and faculty exchange between the Kobe University Graduate School of Humanities and the University of Innsbruck Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. A signing ceremony for these memoranda was held during the Kobe University delegation’s visit. The ceremony was also attended from the University of Innsbruck by Professor Helmut Staubmann (Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), and after confirming our current exchange initiatives, both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral collaboration.

On the following day (December 1) Professor Inoue and Professor Yui gave a commemorative lecture at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. The event examined university initiatives in globalized societies and the spread of Japanese culture. Students who attended the lecture followed up with questions about Kobe University and anime in Japan, and a lively discussion took place.

We look forward to increased exchange in research as well as student and faculty mobility between Kobe University and the University of Innsbruck.
