On March 28, SGH Warsaw School of Economics Chancellor Dr. Marcin Dąbrowski visited Kobe University.
Founded in 1906, SGH is the oldest business school in Poland. It has a prestigious reputation: in 2018 the Financial Times ranked two SGH Master’s Programs in Global Management among the world’s best management programs, and SGH is ranked as Poland’s top business school by education organization Perspektywy. In June 2017, SGH and Kobe University’s Faculty and Graduate School of Economics concluded an academic exchange agreement and memorandum of understanding for student exchange, and we are actively engaged in student and researcher exchange.

Chancellor Dąbrowski began his visit with a meeting at the Graduate School of Economics, attended from Kobe University by Vice President Masahiko Yoshii and Graduate School of Economics faculty members Professor Yoichi Matsubayashi, Professor Tamotsu Nakamura and Associate Professor Agata Wierzbowska (an alumna of SGH). During the meeting they discussed English-taught courses at both institutions, facilities for international students, and the potential for strengthening researcher exchange. Kobe University representatives introduced the Kobe University Brussels European Centre and the annual symposium co-organized by the Graduate School of Economics and European economic think tank Bruegel. Both sides also talked about the growth of e-learning, and how online learning can facilitate globalization of higher education.

The second meeting was attended by Vice President Masahiko Yoshii, Associate Professor Agata Wierzbowska, and Executive Vice President Fumitoshi Mizutani. They discussed potential student exchange in the field of business and Kobe University representatives emphasized the importance of sending Japanese students overseas. The participants also talked about university administration, and confirmed that Japanese and Polish universities have much in common and are facing similar challenges.
In October 2015, Kobe University established a Liaison Office in Krakow, and we are enhancing our collaboration with academic institutes in Central and Eastern Europe. We look forward to deepening our ties with SGH and other universities in Poland.
