On May 31, a delegation from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln led by Professor Michael Boehm (Vice Chancellor, Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources) and Professor Robert “Bob” Wilhelm (Vice Chancellor, Research and Economic Development) visited Kobe University and met with Professor Masahiko Yoshii (Executive Vice President in Charge of International Exchange and Evaluation). The meeting was also attended from Kobe University by Professor Hiroko Masumoto (Vice President in Charge of International Collaboration and International Exchange), Professor Toshinori Kawabata (Dean of the Graduate School of Agricultural Science), Professor Hideyuki Yamamoto (Director, Office of the Americas) and Professor Yasuhito Shirai (Vice Director, Office of the Americas).
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a comprehensive public university formed of nine colleges, founded in the state of Nebraska in 1869. Our universities concluded an inter-university academic exchange agreement in September 2018, and Professor Masahiko Yoshii (Vice President at the time) participated in a ceremony exchanging the agreements at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In November 2018, our University received cooperation and participation from members of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in every session of the 3rd HOKU (Honolulu Office of Kobe University) Symposium “Agricultural Science for Sustainable Global Development and Healthy Society”.
During the meeting, Executive Vice President Yoshii welcomed the delegation and outlined Kobe University’s structure and international activities. Vice Chancellor Michael Boehm expressed his positive impression of Kobe city and our University, and explained that he is planning to strengthen collaboration with businesses in Kobe. Both sides discussed potential exchange initiatives, and agreed to further enhance the collaboration between our institutions.
The delegation also visited the Graduate School of Agricultural Science on the same day, and engaged in an active discussion with Dean Kawabata and Vice Director Shirai on expanding our exchange in agricultural disciplines.
A delegation from our Graduate School of Agricultural Science is planning to visit the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this month (June 2019), and we look forward to further active exchange between our institutions.
