Message
First year students in the Accelerated Course in English (ACE) Program of Kobe University will host a conference, with students giving presentations to showcase the results of their research tied to the ACE English Literacy and ACE English Communication classes in Q3-Q4. This conference will allow more than 200 of these students to present—through poster presentations and formal oral presentations—the results of their research and study.
The title of the conference is "New Direction for a Better Future". More than 200 students will be giving either formal presentations (with PowerPoint) or poster presentations about a variety of topics they have researched. All of the topics are about serious social, scientific, or technical issues facing us in the future.
The student conference model allows students to experience the academic process of researching and presenting on a topic. In addition, the students are actively involved in organizing and running the conference, and do that through work on Program, Publicity, and Site Committees. This gives them a sense of ownership, while involving them in task-based learning, English with a real-world purpose and provides them with first-hand experience of what it means to be part of the academic community.
