Event Description
Learning how to change your jaw patterns is an important part of learning a second language. The theory is that we speak in syllables, each syllable involves opening and closing the mouth, i.e., the jaw. Some languages, like English, have stressed syllables--both lexically and phrasally stressed.
Some languages only have phrasal stress, i.e., French, Japanese, Mandarin. The location of stress/prominence in the utterance varies depending on the language. In this workshop, we will analyze the jaw lowering patterns of your L1 and L2. The goal is to first become aware of the differences in jaw lowering patterns and then to be able to change the patterns to sound more native-like and to be able to communicate more effectively.
