On April 21, President FUJISAWA Masato welcomed a visit from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of El Salvador in Japan, His Excellency Mr. Diego Alejandro DALTON Rosales. Their meeting was also attended by Counselor Mayra VALLE Torres, Kobe University’s Executive Vice President NAKAMURA Tamotsu (Director of the Institute for Promoting International Partnerships), SHIRAI Yasuhiro (Executive Director of the Office of the Americas / Professor of the Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences) and IMURA Takashi (Director of the International Department). Counselor Valle is an alumni of Kobe University's Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies.
President Fujisawa began by welcoming the guests from the embassy. Ambassador Dalton congratulated President Fujisawa on Kobe University’s 120th anniversary. He explained that Kobe University has accepted the largest number of MEXT Scholars from El Salvador out of all the universities in Japan, and added that many people in El Salvador are highly interested in studying in Japan. In light of these circumstances, he expressed his desire to expand cooperation with Kobe University and discussed potential academic exchange, especially in international cooperation studies and agricultural sciences. President Fujisawa explained that four students from El Salvador are currently studying at Kobe University, adding that he would welcome further exchanges in the future.
It is hoped that this visit will lead to new opportunities for academic cooperation between universities in the two countries.
