On July 4th, the China-Japan Joint Seminar on Synthetic Biology and Biomass Bioconversion was held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This seminar was organized with the purpose of deepening research exchanges between Professor Hasunuma’s lab at Kobe University and Professor Zhao’s lab at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The seminar was conducted in two sessions. In the first session (13:00-14:00), nine students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University delivered poster presentations, followed by active Q&A sessions involving participants from both laboratories. The subsequent second session (14:00-17:00) featured oral presentations by eight students and faculty members from both laboratories, providing detailed reports on their latest research findings and methodologies.

The sessions were jointly moderated by faculty members and students from both laboratories, fostering academic discussions in a congenial atmosphere. After the sessions, poster awards, best presentation awards and excellent presentation awards were given to students.

The faculty presentations covered not only experimental results but also discussed broader perspectives on how bio-manufacturing can transform the world and prospects in the field. This enabled participants to gain insights not only into technical knowledge but also perspectives toward the social implementation of research.

This seminar strengthened the academic connections between both laboratories and laid the groundwork for deeper research collaboration in the future.
