On November 18, a delegation from Thomas Jefferson University, including Dr. Said Ibrahim, dean of Sidney Kimmel Medical College; Dr. Charles A. Pohl, executive director of Student Affairs and director of the Jefferson Japan Center; Professor SATO Takami; and Professor Wayne Bond Lau paid a courtesy visit to President FUJISAWA Masato. During the meeting, they exchanged views on medical technologies including AI-assisted surgical support, medical education and hospital management in both countries, and discussed future collaboration across a wide range of fields.


After the courtesy meeting, the delegation moved to Kusunoki Campus, where they visited Kobe University Hospital together with Professor KURODA Ryosuke, director of the Kobe University Hospital. The meeting held at the School of Medicine was attended by Professor MURAKAMI Takamichi, dean of the Graduate School of Medicine; Professor Kuroda; Vice President FUKUMOTO Takumi; Professor SHOJI Ikuo, director of the School of Medicine; Professor MURAGAKI Yoshihiro, director of the department of Medical Device Engineering; Professor SHINOHARA Masakazu; and Project Professor MORITA Yoshinori. They discussed student exchange and possibilities for academic collaboration in medical sciences.


Afterwards, the delegation moved to Port Island facilities, where they visited IMDC and Medtech Innovation Center, located in the KOBE Biomedical Innovation Cluster. They observed the first Japan-produced surgical robot system “hinotori™,” as well as practicum classes conducted by the Department of Medical Device Engineering.
This visit is expected to further deepen exchanges between the two universities in the future.
