On November 27, a delegation from the International Seabed Authority (ISA) visited Kobe University.
The delegation consisted of Leticia Reis de Carvalho, secretary-general; Melissa Beckles, staff assistant of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General; Jose Dallo Moros, director at Office of Stewardship, Environment and Resources and Kioshi Mishiro, GIS officer at the same office.

At the beginning of their visit, Secretary-General Carvalho delivered a speech at the Kobe University Value School entitled “Deep-Sea Resources and Industry: Innovation Guided by Governance.” She took questions from faculty and students, prompting a lively discussion that continued until the session concluded.

Following the seminar, the delegation proceeded to the Administration Offices for a courtesy visit to President FUJISAWA Masato. From the Kobe Ocean-Bottom Exploration Center (KOBEC), Professor ISHIBASHI Jun-ichiro, Project Professor FUKUSHIMA Tomohiko and Associate Professor MATSUNO Tetsuo attended the meeting.

At the outset of the meeting, President Fujisawa expressed his sympathies regarding the damage and temporary closure of the ISA Office in Kingston, Jamaica, caused by Hurricane Melissa on October 28. He also conveyed his appreciation for the long-standing academic collaboration and partnership that KOBEC and ISA have developed over the years.
In response, Secretary-General Carvalho emphasized that Japan and KOBEC remain important partners for ISA. She expressed her intention to strengthen ties with KOBEC  by promoting researcher exchanges, seminars, workshops, and other collaborative initiatives.

This visit is expected to further deepen exchanges between the two institutions in the future.
