On June 18, Professor Kenneth K. Matengu, vice chancellor of the University of Namibia, called on Executive Vice President TAMAKI Hisashi, director of the Office for Promoting International Cooperation. The delegation included Dr. Hilkka O.N. Ndjaula, campus director for Sam Nujoma Campus; Professor Oluwagbenga T. Johnson, associate dean and campus director of the School of Engineering and the Built Environment; Dr. Philipus N. Hishimone, head of the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Material Science and senior lecturer; Mr. Alwyn Petrus Geyser, head of the Department of Nautical Science; and Dr. Romanus Shivute Shivoro, assistant director for International Relations.

From Kobe University, the meeting was attended by UMEYA Kiyoshi, professor and dean of the Graduate School of Intercultural Studies; HIRAYAMA Katsutoshi, professor and dean of the Graduate School of Maritime Sciences; KAJITANI Kai, vice director of the Office for Promoting International Cooperation and professor at the Graduate School of Economics; ONISHI Hiroshi, professor at the Graduate School of Science; and HANADA Eva, associate professor at the Office for Promoting International Cooperation.

During the meeting, Executive Vice President Tamaki introduced the ongoing cooperation between the two universities, including the cotutelle program in the Graduate School of Maritime Sciences, and expressed his appreciation for the partnership between the two universities, which has continued since 2020.

Vice Chancellor Matengu then introduced plans to establish a new institution for maritime education and training in Namibia and expressed his expectations for collaboration in educational programs, faculty training and joint research. The participants also exchanged views on student and faculty exchanges and the possibility of a future joint degree program.

This visit is expected to further strengthen the partnership and academic exchange between the two universities.
