On September 14, Ms. KIM Suk-hyun, consul-general of the Republic of Korea in Kobe, called on President FUJISAWA Masato.
The meeting was attended by Vice Consul CHEON Hyo-jeong and Secretary KIM Cheol-hong from the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Kobe. From Kobe University, Executive Vice President TAMAKI Hisashi, director of the Office for Promoting International Partnerships, and KONDO Narihiko, vice director of the Office for Promoting International Cooperation, also attended.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Fujisawa congratulated Consul-General Kim on her appointment and expressed his welcome to Kobe University. With an increasing number of students in Korea seeking to study in Japan, the participants exchanged views on expanding opportunities for Korean students to study at Kobe University, including the level of Japanese language proficiency required for undergraduate study and the availability of courses and educational programs offered in English.
The discussion also covered the high rate of university enrollment in Korea and the concentration of Korean students in the capital region. The participants considered how universities and local communities can work together to attract and retain young people and support the development of local communities.
The participants also discussed medical exchanges between both countries and how to attract healthcare professionals to local communities.
The discussion also extended to air travel between Korea and Kobe, as well as cultural topics related to both countries. The meeting was conducted in a cordial and welcoming atmosphere.
This visit is expected to further deepen exchanges between the two countries in the future.
