Building a Biosynthetic Reaction Atlas for advanced biomanufacturing

This project aims to establish a versatile platform for the rapid selection and optimization of enzymes, which represent a major bottleneck in modern biomanufacturing.

Conventional enzyme engineering is time-consuming and often requires substantial redesign for each target compound. To dramatically accelerate this process, we are developing an integrated workflow that combines AI-driven enzyme design with robotic experimentation, systematically collecting high-quality data on enzymatic reactions and metabolic pathways to reduce reliance on empirical trial and error.

Our approach extends beyond traditional biotechnology by incorporating digital disciplines such as informatics, mechanical engineering and electronics. Through international collaborations, we secure diverse, high-quality datasets essential for robust AI analysis, thereby establishing a globally competitive research foundation.

The core outcome of this project will be the “Biosynthetic Reaction Atlas,” a reusable metabolic map of optimal enzyme combinations and reaction conditions. This knowledge base will enable rapid and reliable bioproduction design, while also serving as a hub for cultivating advanced interdisciplinary human resources who contribute to industrial competitiveness, carbon neutrality and global well-being.
