The Culture and Globalization Department consists of three divisions. The Contemporary Culture and Society Division deals with comprehensive research into contemporary social and cultural circumstances amid the erosion of modern Western principles accompanying globalization. The Human Communication and Information Science Division investigates issues involving verbal and non-verbal communication and use of diverse information media. The Second Language Education Division is for advanced research concerning second language education and the production of outstanding practitioners in this field. In addition, there is also a joint research group for Advanced Communication in the Doctoral Course in cooperation with the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR). In these divisions and courses, we aim for (1) understanding of the acculturation brought about by globalization and the establishment of new public culture, (2) development of advanced global communication, and (3) development of foreign language education for the global era.
